On 22nd May 2025, the government announced a 4% pay award for teachers, effective from 1st September 2025.
To support this, a new schools budget support grant (SBSG) has also been introduced, alongside increases to funding for special/AP, post-16, and early years settings.
While the DfE has published a tool to help calculate the grant, it's designed for individual schools only and focuses solely on the September 2025 to March 2026 period. For academies, the DfE has stated that "usual arrangements" will cover April to August 2026, but this remains vague.
